Shooting on Campus???

I just got a text from my girlfriend saying that there was a shooting on campus. Can any one tell me if everyone is OK? I am worried.

Anyone please... let me know that everything is ok... I live in SJ, and there is nothing on the news.

I was just told that it was a student leaving the library on Northside, when he was mugged at gunpoint.

I heard it was on Northside, but I just overheard someone telling a friend, so I don't know how accurate that is.

I'm on the edge of campus on northside. I've heard a god-awful amount of sirens in the past few hours.

I just got a call from a friend that there was some shooting, and to stay off campus. So, naturally, I checked to see if LJ knew anything.

The sirens seem to have quieted of late -- what's new?

/me stays in tonight

That's really scary. :(

I'm watching the news right now and have heard nothing about it.

I guess I won't be going to kingpin tonight.

something like this wouldn't be on any news channel yet. probably will be in the morning, but not now.

i heard sirens screaming up durant about when it happened and i hear nothing now. my guess is they'll let the people stuck on campus go at sunrise when it's light.

Im at the library. Have been here 3 hours, and 2 hours ago, there was an armed robbery just north of moffit. it was a big commotion, but i didnt hear a shooting. After that, I got scared and moved into the stacks where word is trickling in of the shooting. No news on lockdown, per say, except that UCPD is encouraging people to stay indoors.

About 10:30, I was on campus around FSM, and I saw two cops running (one had a riotgun I think). Upon seeing that, I decided to walk the in the opposite direction that they were running. I talked to a cop on Northside to which he replied and said they got a few people in custody and confirmed that there were shots fired.

oh good-- im guessing this is the same guy who was at strada last night? and who has been stealing people's cell phones around Unit 1 and 2?

the police reports were saying that the beatings/robberies happening earlier this week were involving a group of people. i wonder if there is some connection between all of them...

I was in Wheeler watching a movie for one of my classes when one of the people in the class got a text message about this. We called UCPD and according to them Wheeler wasn't on lock down and they told us to leave through the south side of campus and to not go near the north side. I don't know if any of the buildings closer to north side are on lock down or not, but according to the UCPD it was a robbery.

Residence Halls..

PEOPLE ARE BEING ENCOURAGED TO STAY INDOORS; NOT ON LOCKDOWN.

FYI for all those who are hearing that 'the dorms are on lockdown.' They may have been at the time, but word from the desks are that they are simply being encouraged and asked. Not stopped from leaving.

what about catching the guy? any news on that... because the police reports have shown a ton of armed and strong armed robberies in the past couple days. unbelievable that no one has been arrested.

The Daily Californian
BREAKING: POLICE CANNOT CONFIRM IF SHOTS WERE FIRED IN ARMED ROBBERY; TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED
Updated: 11:50 p.m. Rumor of Shootings Spreads Among Students
BY Bryan Thomas
Daily Cal Staff Writer
Monday, September 10, 2007

A police manhunt on the north side of campus for suspects connected to an armed robbery ended in arrests of two juveniles late last night.

UC police could neither confirm nor deny whether shots were fired in the armed robbery or ensuing pursuit of suspects, though several students reported that they heard there were shots.

Both UC and Berkeley police responded to reports of an armed robbery that took place around 10 p.m. near Haviland Hall. UCPD Lt. Douglas Wing said an officer identified two people who matched the description the victim gave to police.

"Since this is an ongoing investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment on (whether there was a shooting)," Wing said.

Police reported the victim of the robbery sustained minor injuries.

Wing said that officers were able to recover most of the victim’s belongings, which included a backpack and its contents, as well as a BB gun that police suspect belong to one of the suspects.

Police arrested one of the suspects by Cory Hall, Wing said. The other suspect escaped, but was apprehended at the intersection of Gayley Road and University Drive across from the Greek Theatre.

my housemate decides to stay in soda hall to work, instead of coming home...anyhow, he said the cops are gone. he said the cops came and asked if they have seen a black guy around. soda is released as of about an hour ago. but the north gate area is on yellow taped.

official police report

here it is for the record:
U.C. Police Crime Alert - Armed Robbery
Northwest of Haviland Hall
(Suspects Arrested)

On Monday, September 10, 2007, at 9:19 PM UCPD received a report from Moffitt Library that an armed robbery had just occurred. A 28-year-old Asian male student was walking towards the footbridge near the northwest corner of Haviland Hall when he was approached from behind by a male juvenile. The juvenile grabbed hold of the victim’s brief case and demanded his property. The suspect then threatened the victim and pulled out what was later discovered to be a BB gun. The victim was hit several times by BB gun pellets. A second juvenile appeared and both suspects began punching the victim, knocking the victim to the ground and kicking him. The suspects took the brief case and fled on foot eastbound towards the Greek Theater on University Drive. UCPD Officers responded to the scene moments after the robbery occurred and observed two individuals matching the description of the suspects heading towards Cory Hall. A foot chase ensued; one suspect was immediately located and taken into custody. The second suspect was located following an area search and taken into custody. During the police response, a building search of Cory Hall was conducted. UCPD retrieved the BB gun and recovered the victim’s property. The victim suffered minor injuries during the encounter and received first aid from BFD.

The suspects in custody are described as follows:

Suspect #1 – Black male, 14 years-of-age, 5’07” in height, 160 lbs., wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, baggy blue jeans, white “Air Force” shoes, a black/orange baseball hat with a name on it.
Suspect #2 – Black male, 14 years-of-age, 5’09” in height, 153 lbs., wearing a white t-shirt, baggy blue jeans, and a black/red baseball cap and carrying a black back pack.

BB gun! HAHAHAHHA fucking amateurs.

not that robberies and shootings are funny, obviously it's outrageous that these things are happening on campus, or anywhere... but seriously.... a BB gun! seriously fucking hilarious! Was the attacker like, what, 12?

What's scary is I was studying at FSM and actually walked past the guy who had gotten mugged. He was with a cop, right near the contrusction of the asian studies building and the cop didn't say anything to me. Then I passed by another cop on the corner of Euclid and Hearst who had detained one of the guys.

I will be calling Bear Walk from now on.
